Solar Photovoltaics
(PV) is a method of generating electrical power by converting solar radiation into direct current electricity using semiconductors that exhibit the photovoltaic effect. As of 2010, solar photovoltaics generates electricity in more than 100 countries and, while yet comprising a tiny fraction of the 4800 GW total global power-generating capacity from all sources, is the fastest growing power-generation technology in the world.
Wind
At the end of 2009, worldwide capacity of wind-powered generators was 159.2 gigawatts (GW). Energy production was 340 TWh, which is about 2% of worldwide electricity usage and is growing rapidly, having doubled in the past three years. Several countries have achieved relatively high levels of wind power penetration (with large governmental subsidies), such as 20% of stationary electricity production in Denmark.
Biomass
Biomass is a readily available organic material that is made of wood, agricultural crops and residues, as well as organic waste. Bio-fuels are biomass by- products and include bio-oil, black liquor and bio-diesel. All biomass materials are clean carbon neutral fuels utilised for generation of heat, electricity and as fuel in transportation. There is 15.6GW installed biomass capacity in Europe in 2009. In Sweden, biomass contributed 40% to the total electricity generated in 2009. Supported by govertnment incentives biomass generated power supply will grow further, making it an important renewable energy sub-sector.
